The annual Bethalto Homecoming tradition began as a way to honor the soldiers returning from World War I. A maple tree was planted in the area for every soldier who returned from the war, and a picnic was held for residents to congregate and socialize. Over the years, the celebration of servicemen returning from duty has evolved into a weekend-long event for residents and visitors. Today, the festivities encompass live entertainment, games, food, carnival rides, and fun for the whole family. The annual Homecoming parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Bethalto East Elementary School and will end at the Park.
