Join the Swedish Council of St. Louis for a traditional Swedish Christmas celebration. The Swedish Butik (boutique) and Swedish Kaffestuga (coffeehouse) will open at 2:00 pm. The narrated performance with traditional Swedish Christmas songs, dancing, Swedish elves, and Jul Tomte (Santa) begins at 3 pm. The program highlight is the candlelight procession of Lucia.
This Swedish tradition celebrating St. Lucia Day has been passed down for generations. On December 13th, one of the shortest days of the year, girls in Sweden dress up as Sankta Lucia, wearing a white gown and a crown of candles, to bring light and hope into the long nights of winter. Her arrival marks the beginning of the holiday season.
Admission will be $10.00 at the door or online. Children 6 to 12 $5.00 and children under 5 admitted free. https://www.swedishcouncilstlouis.org/events/2024-sankta-lucia-julfest
The event is being held in the Robert Reim Theatre at the Kirkwood Community Center.
