

This blended learning course will combine online learning with hands on skills practice to prevent, recognize and respond to emergencies; as well as providing care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. Participants must register 1 week in advance and complete all eLearning components must be finished before the first scheduled in-person meeting. In order to participate in this course, participants must be able to complete a prerequisite skills assessment consisting of three tests.
Must swim 150 yards continuously using front crawl or breaststroke, tread for 2 minutes without using their hands, and continue swimming 50 yards without stopping. Must use rhythmic breathing with your face in the water and a stabilizing, propellant kick.
Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive and retrieve a 10 lb. object, return to the surface, and swim back to the starting point with the object (placing the object on the side of the pool and exiting the water NOT using a ladder or steps) within one minute and forty seconds. While returning to the starting point, you must hold the 10 lb. object with both hands and keep your face above water.
Participants must be 15 years of age on, or prior to, the last scheduled class date! Attendance is required at all sessions in order to earn certification. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE!
