This course will provide skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and respond to emergencies; as well as providing care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. In order to participate in this course, participants must be able to complete a prerequisite skills assessment consisting of three (3) tests.
Must swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards of front crawl stroke; 100 yards of breaststroke; and 100 yards of either front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. All 300 yards must use rhythmic breathing with your face in the water and a stabilizing, propellant kick.
Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive and retrieve a 10 lb. object, return to the surface, and swim back to the starting point with the object (placing the object on the side of the pool and exiting the water NOT using a ladder or steps) within one minute and forty seconds. While returning to the starting point, you must hold the 10 lb. object with both hands and keep you face above water.
Tread water using only legs; arms under the armpits for two minutes.
Participants must be 15 years of age on, or prior to, the last scheduled class date! Attendance is required at all sessions in order to earn certification. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE!
