The purpose of our study, The ACE (Autism Center for Excellence) Network, Renewal: Increasing Representation of Human Diversity, is to help identify genes that might be involved in autism. Along with studying the environmental factors that contribute to a delay in diagnosis and barriers to quality care for African-American families.
We are currently recruiting African-American and Bi-racial African-American families with at least one child age 18 months or older who is, or might be, affected by an autism spectrum disorder. We are also recruiting Caucasian children age 18 months to 36 months old to serve as a comparison group.
Participation in this study will involve one to three visits to our lab on the Washington University Medical School campus. Our team will conduct a comprehensive battery of assessments with each participant, including cognitive and diagnostic testing.
Participating families will receive a summary report of their child’s completed assessments. Families will also be compensated for their time, and transportation is available, if needed!
