Middle School Summer Challenge
A commuter program for current 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in the St. Louis area. Our Middle School Summer Challenge program is designed to expand students' critical thinking skills in an exciting and innovative environment. Students participate in an arts and humanities themed course, leadership and team building activities, and a STEM course creating a well-rounded summer experience.
This program is ideal for students looking to build a strong academic foundation and engage with students from across the St. Louis area. This program is noncredit.
Students in Middle School Summer Challenge commute to campus. We provide a full daily schedule that includes classes, lunch, and social activities. Students are supervised at all times by our dedicated program staff.

High School Summer Scholars Program
Explore Your Academic Interests
A five-week residential program for rising high school seniors. Students enroll in one or two undergraduate courses for credit and study alongside undergraduates. Courses are taught by WashU instructors from across campus disciplines and research fields including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics. Introductory-level curriculum provides an opportunity for students to create a strong foundation for future undergraduate studies. Past course options have explored subjects including economics, statistics, anthropology, philosophy, drama, and political science.
This program is ideal for students who want to earn college credit, challenge themselves academically and explore courses in a specific major or subject.
High School Summer Scholars live on campus in one of our top-ranked, air-conditioned residence halls. In addition to coursework, students participate in enrichment programming designed to support the development of important college readiness skills.

High School Summer Institutes
Discover Your Passion
These two-week residential programs are for rising high school juniors and seniors. Students discover a new passion, or dive deeper into an existing one, through a noncredit, interdisciplinary environment. Institutes are designed for students to ask questions, collaborate with peers, and consider new ideas.
These programs are ideal for students who want to experience undergraduate curriculum without the pressure of a letter grade. Class sizes are small (typically between 15-20 students) to ensure students receive personalized feedback from instructors.
