Our Leagues
Our club offers several leagues throughout the year. We offer instructional leagues as well as social and competitive leagues. All leagues require membership in our club (because of insurance costs).
If you would like to reserve your spot in a league, and you are not currently a member, please click on the "New Member Sign-Up" button on the top menu bar and fill out the form. If you are currently a member, please login to the website and click on the menu "Member Dashboard" > "League Info" > "Make League Registration Changes". If you have any questions or issues, please contact the Leagues Director.
All games are at the Creve Coeur Ice Rink (CC). Splitting a league with another person is acceptable; however, we highly recommend you find someone else to split the opposite weeks of the entire league. Please make sure to indicate who you are splitting with and which dates you can attend when registering.

Payment Information
For each league, we need your payment before the start date of the league to secure the ice time. Your registration is not complete and your spot in the league is not guaranteed until we have received your payment. During your new member registration process, you will be directed to pay for your membership and the leagues using a credit card via PayPal. If you choose to not make payment at that time, the PayPal payment page can also be reached by logging in to the website and clicking on the menu "Member Dashboard" > "League Info" > "Make League Registration Changes". (You do not need a PayPal account to pay online - PayPal allows for guest checkouts). You may also bring a check to one of our events, or arrange to mail a check to our Treasurer before the league start date. Please also notify the Leagues Director if you are paying by check. (There is no price difference based on your method of payment). We strongly encourage payment using PayPal.
For some leagues, brand new curlers registering for their first ever league at our club get a $20 discount. Children aged 5-18 get a 25% discount on most leagues we offer (see individual league descriptions for details). All league prices include PayPal fees. Discounts cannot be combined.
For any of our leagues, if you cannot pay in full, please contact the Treasurer if you would like to arrange a more flexible payment plan for special circumstances.
Refunds: No refunds will be issued for league fees after 30 days before the start of the league unless the league has a waiting list, and your spot(s) can be filled. Please note that the club must commit to buying ice 30 days before the start of each league and is counting on your participation.
If there are insufficient registrants 30 days in advance of the league start date, and the league has been cancelled, you will be refunded for the league fees. Please register early!
Rules For Staying Safe While Curling
As part of our initiative to keep you safe, we have some safety rules to follow. Please see our Rules For Staying Safe While Curling page. Please familiarize yourself with this, especially if you are going to curl with us any time this season. The information is current as of this writing, however we may make revisions, as necessary.
Appropriate Attire
The ice rink will be 45 degrees, but you may warm up once you start playing and sweeping, so it is best to dress in layers. Wear loose fitting pants that allow freedom of movement. If you get cold easily, you will want to bring a hat and/or gloves. Please wear clean (not muddy), flat soled shoes such as tennis shoes. Please don't wear sandals or shoes without backs. We also recommend that you wear/bring warm socks as your feet/ankles may get cold! Feel free to bring a helmet if you want the additional protection.
Equipment
No equipment is needed to curl with us! We have everything that you need to participate, including rubber grippers for your shoes, brooms (and delivery sticks if needed), and stabilizers. Just come dressed and ready to play!
Age Limit
Children 14 years and older can participate in all leagues, while children aged 5-13 can play in the leagues on their parents' team. (We strongly recommend that both a parent and the child aged 5-13 both register for the league. If the parent does not wish to curl, we require that the parent or guardian be present at the rink at all times.) The club also has junior stones which are half the weight of the regulation stones and can be used by children aged 15 and under. During the game, once the junior stones are delivered and if the stone is still in play, they are replaced by the regulation stones.
League Rules
The St. Louis Curling Club follows the USCA club and bonspiel rules for curling as much as possible. Below are a few things to keep in mind.
- For every 15 minutes a team is late (after the ice is ready), that team forfeits one end and one point. If a team is thirty minutes late, the game is forfeited. However, the two teams can mutually agree to override this rule if they desire.
- If a curler is late, a team may begin the match with three or less curlers. Once the late curler arrives, he/she may enter the game at the start of the next full end (not in the middle of an end). The late curler may enter at any position on his/her sheet, including skip.
- Our leagues follow the five stone free guard zone rule. Stones may not be removed from the free guard zone (unless they are pushed into the house) until five stones have been played each end.
- Technically, ties are allowed and accounted for with our new point-based system, however they are not recommended.
- All ties should be broken by skips stones (each skip throws one stone and the closest to the button wins). It is up to the two teams to decide if you want to allow sweeping or not. It is generally recommended to allow sweeping. However, you can only sweep your own stone - you cannot sweep your opponent's stone. The winning team will be awarded 1 additional score point and 0.5 additional end win. Please record this on the score recording system appropriately.
- If there is not enough time for skip stones, then teams are allowed to break the tie using a coin flip or rock-paper-scissors. The winning team will be awarded 1 additional score point and 0.5 additional end win. Please record this on the score recording system appropriately.
- If the tie is not broken before everyone leaves the arena, or if both teams mutually agree to not perform a tiebreaker, then the score can be recorded as a tie in the score recording system.
- The Leagues Director may intervene in situations where ties exist.
- Each end should take 15 minutes or less. This means stones must be delivered less than one minute apart. Please be ready and in the hack when it is your turn to deliver. It is up to the skips to keep the game moving at a brisk pace.
- If you can't make a game, it is your responsibility to inform your team and the Leagues Director so that a sub can be arranged. Please include the date and time of your game. Subs must play Lead or Second (unless all members of the opposing team agree that the sub(s) can play a different position).
- Teams will forfeit a game if less than 1/3 of their original team is present. The game can still be played with subs but will be counted as a forfeit. Please ensure that the forfeit is marked appropriately on the score recording system.
- See the "Subbing Rules" section below for more details.
Subbing Rules
Subs must play Lead or Second (unless all members of the opposing team agree that the sub(s) can play a different position).
All subs must be current club members in good standing, meaning they are registered as a member this season AND have paid their membership fees for the season already.
- Teams will forfeit a game if less than 1/3 of their original team is present.
- The game can still be played with subs but will be counted as a forfeit. Please ensure that the forfeit is marked appropriately on the score recording system.
- The 1/3rd Rule:
- If your team roster normally has 4 members:
- ...And 2 or 3 team members are in attendance and 1 or 2 subs have joined your team, then those subs must play either Lead or Second.
- ...And only 1 team member is in attendance, then regardless of the number of subs you have, the game is an automatic forfeit per our 1/3rd Rule.
- If your team roster normally has 3 members:
- ...And 2 team members are in attendance and 1 sub has joined your team, then that sub must play Lead. The subs can only play as Vice Skip or Skip with the permission of the entire opposing team. (There technically is no "Second" position on 3 person teams).
- ...And only 1 team member is in attendance and 2 subs have joined your team, then the subs must play Lead and Vice Skip. The subs can only play as Skip with the permission of the entire opposing team. (There technically is no "Second" position on 3 person teams).
- If the rules are violated, then the sub (and possibly the offending team members in attendance) will be issued a warning. The team that the sub curled on will be forced to forfeit that game.
- Warnings will be kept forever so if it happens again, that member will lose their subbing privileges for an entire calendar year from the date of the infraction.
- The leagues director with consultation from the rest of the Board may choose to intervene and increase the penalties or alter the game results at their discretion.
- If you see an issue, please reach out to the Leagues Director, another board member, or other club members immediately so that we may help resolve the issue before the game begins.
- Sportsmanship is particularly important to the sport of curling so willfully breaking club rules will not be tolerated.
Score Recording
One person from each game will be required to submit the final score of the game as well as the # of ends won by each team. To record your game's score, login to the website and navigate to the menu item: "Member Dashboard" > "Enter My Draw Scores". The website will only allow you to record the scores for your game.
Once a score has been submitted, it cannot be edited. If the system does not allow you to submit a score, it's either because somebody has already submitted it or there is an error in the system. To see if a score has already been submitted, navigate to your league's webpage (links above for each league) > click the "Standings" tab > click on your team's name. This will show you the scores that were recorded for every week of the league. If a mistake has been made, or you are having issues recording your score and no score is shown on the Standings page, please inform the Leagues Director.
How To Record Forfeits:
If one or both teams forfeit the game, please let the Leagues Director know. Guidelines for recording that forfeit are as follows:
If only one team forfeits:
Team: | Game Score: | Ends: |
Forfeiting Team | Default | 0 |
Non-Forfeiting Team | 6 | 4 |
If both teams forfeit:
Team: | Game Score: | Ends: |
Forfeiting Team 1 | Default | |
Forfeiting Team 2 | Default |
Standings Calculation
Standings will be calculated using a point system, as shown below. Our club's goal is to emphasize that we want to reward teams for winning games and ends, instead of running up the score against their opponents.
Win | 4 pts |
Loss | 1 pt |
Forfeit | 0 pts |
Each End Won | .5 pts |
End Won (due to Skip Stones) | .25 pts (½ End) |
Each Score Value | .1 pt |
Standings Tie Breakers:
All ties in the standings will be broken in the following order:
- Head-to-Head Record
- Only in leagues where each team plays all other teams (full round-robin).
- or
- Only in leagues where each team plays all other teams in their division.
- Total Ends Won
- Net Stones Scored
- Stones Scored
