Cub Scouts

We partner with the Boy Scouts of America to offer Cub Scout workshops that fulfill elective requirements related to S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Bricks 4 Kidz can also provide specialized activities for your end-of-year Blue and Gold Banquet. Contact us for additional information.

The following badge workshops are available for Cub Scout Troops:

Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos – STEM NOVA Science Everywhere (1 hour workshop) Scouts will review the steps of the scientific process and record each step as they build a motorized LEGO model of a spinning top. We’ll then experiment with different modifications to observe the effects. During the workshop, there will be discussion on how the scouts began with a question, tried and modified their designs, and reflected on the scientific process.

Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos – STEM NOVA Swing (1 hour workshop) Delve into the world of simple machines. Scouts will learn about different simple machines such as levers, pulleys, inclined planes and more. Then they will build their own motorized LEGO See Saw model to represent a simple machine. We will discuss the three types of levers and discover simple machines we use in our everyday lives.

Wolves – Elective Adventures: Motor Away  (1.5 hour workshop) Step aboard and build some exciting ways to get from here to there. Catapult paper airplanes through the sky, sail motorized boats, and race your car model to the finish line. Scouts will learn what makes air, land, and sea machines unique, and they’ll put their building skills to the test!

Bears – Make it Move (2 hour workshop)  Delve into the world of simple machines! Scouts will learn about types of simple machines and their uses and build motorized models of real-world objects that use them. Scouts will test their knowledge by working in teams to create a chain reaction in order to transport mini figures successfully across various motorized LEGO conveyor models.

Bears Elective Adventure: Robotics (1 hour workshop) Robots have replaced humans in performing repetitive and dangerous tasks. In this workshop we will discuss ways that robots help us. We will build a motorized LEGO Robot Hand, whose sole function is to transfer items from one place to another-just like a human hand. Scouts will then be able to modify and enhance the robot they build.

Webelos – Engineer (2 hour workshop) Welcome to the vast and exciting world of engineering. Discover the many types of engineers and how they invent and improve upon all that we do and see. Learn about architectural concepts as you build a suspension bridge model like a civil engineer. Experience a mechanical engineer’s role in creating the fastest dragster car as you build your own motorized model of one. Test your hand at creating your own blueprint or plan, then build your design.

Movie Making Elective Adventure (3 hour workshop) Lights, cameras, LEGO action! Scouts will use their creativity to design and film their own movie. They will plan, script, stage, shoot, and produce their mini-movie using stop motion animation techniques. Working as a team, students will use LEGO components to build the set and props, and create their movie using digital devices. They will use stop motion animation software to edit, add sound and incorporate special effects into their take-home digital movie masterpiece.
