After School

Unleashing Potential provides high quality, curriculum-based before and after school programs in St. Louis City and County at 9 locations.

In the state of Missouri, 2 out of 3 children do not have access to before or after school programs, leaving them with a significant amount of unsupervised time that can reduce academic success and influence unsafe and unhealthy behaviors.

UP After School is a safe and educational option for parents, and it is an enhancement to a child’s regular classroom learning. The program provides a curriculum-based approach to math, literature, character education, fitness and nutrition.

High quality enrichment activities expose children to cultural arts and encourage creative expression in a supportive environment. Unleashing Potential is proud to partner with various organizations across the St. Louis region and provide these experiences to our children.

In addition to artistic development, the program includes the Conscious Discipline curriculum, a research-based behavior management model that empowers staff to use everyday conflicts to teach children self regulation and important life skills that encourage pro-social behavior.

More About Conscious Discipline

Conscious Discipline is a comprehensive classroom management program and a social-emotional curriculum. It is based on current brain research, child development information and developmentally appropriate practices. Conscious Discipline has been specifically designed to make changes in the lives of adults first. This research-based behavior management curriculum model empowers staff to use everyday conflicts to teach children life skills and encourage pro-social behaviors while increasing their own social and emotional awareness

To be successful, those involved require a willingness to learn, impulse control, and attention.

+
Without willingness, each interaction becomes a power struggle instead of a learning opportunity. The School Family brings all children and adults, especially the most difficult, to a place of willingness through a sense of belonging.
+
Connection with others is the construct that literally wires the brain for impulse control. Disconnected children are disruptive and prone to aggressive, shutting down or bullying behaviors. The School Family uses connection to encourage impulse control while teaching self-regulation skills in context.
+
Our attentional system is sensitive to stress and becomes engaged with positive emotions. The School Family reduces stress while creating an atmosphere of caring, encouragement and meaningful contributions.
